Dr. Julia Petersen
Dr. Julia Petersen grew up pony clubbing and riding horses through sugar cane fields in Louisiana before moving to Texas as a teenager where she found her passion for dressage. She continued to train and compete through college after which she decided to follow her passion for training dressage horses all the way to Germany, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington.
Along the way she realized she loved caring for these amazing animals as much as she loved riding them. This led to getting certified as an equine body worker and eventually veterinary school. Dr. Petersen received both her DVM and MBA from Colorado State University and then completed a 15-month sports medicine internship at Virginia Equine Imaging.
Additionally, she is certified in equine and small animal acupuncture. Following her internship, she joined B.W. Furlong and Associates, practicing in New Jersey and Wellington, FL with a focus on sports medicine, advanced imaging, and equine rehabilitation before returning to the west coast to join the Bayhill Equine team where she worked as an associate with Dr. Browning until he retired in September 2023 when she took over the practice.
Throughout her adventures, she has continued to ride and train her gelding, Don, in dressage. She also has 2 “covid kittens” Pablo and Georgia, who bring endless energy and mischief into her home. When she's not riding Don or cuddling with her fluffy kittens, she is outside hiking, pursuing some sort of water activity, pilates/yoga, or watching movies.
